You know you’re chasing shiny balls if…

You’re distracted. You have 10 have written articles, blogs, or books. You have 10,000 lists all around the house, car, office and they all say the same thing, just on different color and in different order. (PS – this is not organization!)

You’re drowning. You feel like you’re suffocating, never getting ahead in life. It’s like you’re doing the doggy paddle across the lake with a 50# weight on your feet, stopping at every dock. You feel anxious and non-productive. You want to be able to xyz, but don’t ever see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You’re lost. You forgot to bring the map with you on the road trip. You don’t know your head from your ass and instead of walking through life, you’re floating/feeling invisible. If people ask you how you are, you say “fine” or “good”. It’s easier to just say that than complain about life (because someone always has it worse) AKA victim.

You’re frustrated. You’re pissed and confused. You know what you want, but you don’t know how to get there. Or maybe you don’t know what you want but you just have a knowing that it’s not supposed to be this. The “T” in the road shows up in your life, yet it seems that you always go the wrong direction.

You’re bummed, exhausted or even depressed. Everyone’s idea looks better than yours. Everyone’s life looks better than yours, especially on social media. You find yourself comparing what everyone else looks like, owns or is doing and you are jealous and hopeless. You become hopeless, tired and living without purpose and passion.

IS THIS YOU? If so, keep reading. If not, forward to a friend. The problem isn’t any of the above points. It’s because of you not being clear on who you are and what your purpose is. Here are a few tips that have helped me weed through this:

1. GET QUIET. Shut the monkey brain off. Pay attention to the woulda, coulda, shoulda’s…or the can’ts, won’ts, have to’s. This destructive tape will play over and over, messing with your mojo. Sit down and write what you feel…”puke on paper” and throw it away, burn it, whatever. Release it; when it’s gone, it’s gone.

2. LET GO of what you aren’t. Let the bullshit out – the expectations and opinions of your family that you’ve listened to, the fear of being who you are, the rejection that you assume may happen. It’s all made up anyway so start to focus on who you are and not caring what anyone else thinks of you. (Psst: it’s none of your business anyway!)

3. DEFINE YOU and embrace what you are. Write down how you WANT to feel, how you WANT to show up in your life. We all have a picture of who we are, deep inside, and now you get to create it. What do you love to do? What makes you laugh? What words describe you? How do you want to show up in the world?

When you do the work, you begin to live your destiny, what you were born and created to do. It will be done with ease when you follow your heart and gut. Then, my friend, you can follow the shiny, sparkly diamond that is leading you towards your greatness and your gifts. But only one of them. (At a time!)

Sending you all sorts of sparkles and love…Dr. T
