Mama, Do You Have a Poor Pooper?

As you probably already know in my writing and teaching, I see a ton of kids in my practice. As a matter of fact, over 50% of my practice is kids who range from healthy newborns of adjusted mamas to teens struggling with anxiety, depression and self-worth issues (by the way, this is now 1 in 5 kids) to what I describe as a ‘raging bull’ (1 in 9 kids) struggling in school to athletes who want to get back on the field/court/ice.

In the thousands of patient histories I’ve done over the last 10 years, the most common complaint is being a ‘poor pooper’. (And OMG, if I could record the facial expressions of these kids when I ask, “Do you poop every day? Does it hurt? Is it hard?” I would be rich!). Even if ‘poor pooping’ is not a primary complaint, it is one that is the most frequent.

I always get a little sad when I see little babies at a few weeks old struggling with tummy issues, many times diagnosed as reflux, gas and/or colic. By the time I see them, many of these little munchkins have been on Mirilax and/or tested and there is no ‘medical problem’. If the problem isn’t resolved, they become toddlers who now have additional symptoms, such as stomach aches, headaches, allergies, getting sick often, gas/bloating, along with accompanying children when they get older and struggle with more challenging issues such as ADD, ADHD, Autism, SPD, OCD, depression, anxiety, etc. I’ve seen this continue from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood if not addressed.

To answer the question, “Can Chiropractic help my Poor Pooper?” here we go!

There are 3 floors to the digestive system that I’m inspecting during the exam and on the nerve scan of these kiddos and they are as follows:

  1. Esophagus – the intake of food. Symptoms: Reflux, colic
  2. Stomach – the chopping up of food. Symptoms: Stomach aches/pain, bloating, gas, nausea
  3. Intestines – the absorption and elimination of food. Symptoms: Constipation, immune challenges, leaky gut, Crohn’s, IBS

When reviewing the nerve scan, I can see where the main issues are and if there is a floor that is not working properly (subluxation), your child will likely have one or more of the above symptoms. Chiropractic does not treat anything, but rather removes the interference so that the brain and body can fully communicate and heal. The letters DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) really stand for Doctor of Cause. My job is to find the cause of the problem and fix it and watch the body heal.

Stay tuned next week for FAQ’s and additional information so that you can learn more about helping those who you love.
